The former East Berlin shopping center 'Centrum Warenhaus' was transformed into an office building for the digital age, based on the design by JASPER ARCHITECTS. The existing 80 x 80-meter building in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain was stripped down to its supporting structure of columns and floor slabs. Cavities were cut into each side of the building’s structure to flood the interior with the natural light needed for workspaces, and terraces were added to the office floors. The existing structure was wrapped in a fully glazed facade. Upon completion in 2021, the building with its 45,000 square meters of office space was handed over to its new main tenant, ZALANDO.
